Assembly
We were thinking about how to ‘Be Community Minded’ in our school assembly this morning with the theme of reduce, re-use, recycle.
We learnt how some of the items we throw away are buried, burnt or may end up in the ocean and that this can be harmful to humans and other animals as well as the earth.
The message as to how to help our communities was to reduce our use of some resources, for example by turning off the tap when cleaning our teeth; To re-use items perhaps by giving clothes they have outgrown to the 2nd hand uniform sale so someone else may make use of them and to recycle by putting waste paper and cardboard into the correct recycling container and not putting waste food in with our recycling.
We enjoyed the song and poem that helped to remind us what we could do.
Second Hand Sale
Thank you to Mrs Khalastchi and Ms Dvorkis for arranging the second hand uniform sale that took place this morning. A total of £390 has been raised for the CHS Hardship and Bursary Fund.
Assessments
This week we have started the process of taking a snapshot assessment of the skills of our children in Junior One and in Form Six. This will help inform teachers’ planning and in the case of Form Six pupils help parents decide which senior school may be the best fit for their child.
Information on how children have settled in and the proposed focus for their learning will be shared with parents in the upcoming Parent Meetings and short report.
Form Six meetings will be taking place next week and for Junior One and Forms One - Five it will be the 19th or 20th October.
School Trips
The school likes to make the most of the educational opportunities that London has to offer and with our older pupils (Forms Three - Six) we take advantage of the free travel on buses to get to places such as The British Museum. However to use tube trains, trains within London and the Elizabeth line we have to apply for a travel permit (we are allowed a few each year). If the children have a 5-10 Zip Oyster Photocard they can make unlimited use of the network. Parents have to apply for this and there is a small administrative fee but the card does open up London and travel tends to be speedier than the buses.
On Tuesday 6th October, Forms Three - Six will be visiting The Bayeux Tapestry exhibition at the British Museum and it would be really useful if children who already have a 5 - 10 Zip Oyster Card bring it with them.
Collection Arrangements
As we start to head towards colder and wetter weather and darker evenings, we would like to remind parents that if a child has an older sibling whose class may be dismissed up to 15 minutes after our youngest children, we look after them in school in the sibling room. When the older child comes down to the hall, they collect their younger sibling from the Junior One classroom and are dismissed together. This means that parents/carers only need to arrive for the later dismissal time, and it reduces the congestion on the pavement outside school and in the school hallway. Where an older sibling has a club, we can dismiss at the younger sibling's time.
Flu Vaccination
The Westminster Immunisation team will be at CHS on Thursday 1st October. An email would have been sent from the immunisation team asking parents to give permission for their child to receive the flu vaccination.
If you have not yet seen this email, please have a search for: vaccinations.in.schools@notifications.service.gov.uk in case this was missed. Embedded within the email is a link to respond, even if you refuse to give consent please respond letting them know.

Artwork of the Week
Irene in Form Two, for fantastic sketchbook drawings of leaves, inspired by the artist and scientist Anna Atkins. Careful observation and excellent use of line to record all the details. Well done Irene!
Staff News
Miss Cho recently travelled to Madagascar to support Light and Love Home, a charity close to her heart. Joining its volunteers in Antananarivo and Tamatave (Toamasina), she helped organise and distribute stationery and school supplies to schools serving some of the most disadvantaged families. The team also visited homes to deliver basic necessities such as rice, oil, salt and sugar: simple items that make a real difference to families who must carefully choose what they can afford.
Miss Cho described the trip as humbling and inspiring and a privilege to see the charity's impact first-hand. To find out more about Light and Love Home, please visit the website below:
