Assembly
This week the theme in assembly was ‘Be Community Minded: Celebrate Diversity.’ We thought about the different cultures that make up CHS and in the wider community in Britain. We recognised how people may speak more than one language, may look or sound different from ourselves and can enjoy different foods.
We spoke of how people may have different beliefs, celebrate different festivals and wear different clothes but that we all had shared values, such as treating people fairly and respecting that people can make different choices to ourselves. We recognized that if we stick to the common rules and values, together we create a diverse community that can work together to achieve so much. We ended by listening and singing along with the song ‘Together’.

Recent Music Awards
Congratulations to both Clara M in Form Five and Luca W in Form Six, for receiving merit awards in Grade One Flute and Grade Two Recorder respectively earlier in the Summer. Bravo to both of them!
Many of our children take individual tuition in a musical instrument. If you are interested in violin, recorder, flute or piano tuition please contact the peripatetic music staff at music@connaughthouseschool.co.uk.
After-school Chess Club
The children have been thoroughly enjoying developing their skills with the expertise of our specialist chess teachers from Wallace Chess, who have been introducing them to new strategies and challenges each week.
We have also been fortunate to have the support of volunteers from Wetherby Senior School, who have been generously sharing their own chess knowledge and enthusiasm with the children. They have been challenging our pupils to put their skills into practice, as well as enjoying some friendly matches together.
The combination of expert tuition, peer challenge and plenty of opportunities to play is making Chess Club a particularly enjoyable part of our after-school provision. If your child has an interest in chess, or would simply like to have a go and develop their skills, please email the school office for further details on how to sign up.
