ℯNEWS September, 11 2026

We hope you enjoy reading the first e-news of the school year.

The children have now all settled into their new forms and are starting to become adjusted to the increased demands of the older year group. Very well done to our newest pupils. Our Junior One class have settled remarkably quickly into their new school. Bravo to Junior One!

Email Communications

As some of you may be aware, there have been some issues with emails not being delivered to inboxes.  Our technician has been working with London Grid for Learning who provide our internet connection and filtering service to rectify this.  Please check your spam folder if you believe you have not been receiving emails from school.

Welcome Meetings

We hope you found the opportunity to meet your child’s teacher yesterday, helpful. For any parents who were unable to attend, please do not worry, your child’s Form Teacher will be circulating the slides shortly.

You will have the chance to speak one on one with your child’s class teacher just before the half-term break.

Clubs

Clubs resumed this week. New subjects such as dance with Miss Pears and debating with Mr Garvey, were very successful. Our new contracted clubs with the Academy Football and The Wallace Chess Club have also been very positive. There are still places available for pupils to join clubs. Please contact the office if you would like to register

Uniform

A little housekeeping to draw your attention to: children may continue to wear summer uniform with their school blazer over the next few weeks but they should all move into winter uniform for the start of October.

It is imperative that all items of clothing are named with family name and initial or first name in an easily seen place. Name tags or stamps are more long lasting but a Sharpie pen can do the job as well.  Please take a moment over the weekend to double-check that all items are named as we have already got some unnamed lost property.

Sickness Guidance

Seasonal sickness will be upon us before long, so here is a quick refresher.

  • If your child experiences vomiting or diarrhoea, please keep them off school for a full 48 hours after their last bout.

  • If your child has a fever above 37.6°C, they should not come into school.

  • If your child has a contagious illness, with or without a rash, please follow NHS guidance regarding the specific length of the infectious period.

Assembly

The children enjoyed a welcome back to school assembly last Friday and thought about the different emotions that we might have in returning to school after a holiday.  We considered how our behaviour code helped to create a welcoming, pleasant place where everyone could learn.

We remembered:

Be Kind

Be hard-working

Be co-operative

Be well-mannered

Be resilient and

be Community Minded

We also learnt a new song ‘Back in School Again’ which the children enjoyed singing.

The Jigsaw Assembly

This week Mrs Galligan introduced the first unit in our Jigsaw scheme, Being Me in My World. The children learnt the importance of being community-minded and to recognise when others are feeling left out or sad. The Jigsaw Puzzle Unit One focus is on belonging and fostering a supportive environment  in which to learn and value others.

Celebrating with our community

Some of the children today brought in apples and honey to share with their classmates for Rosh Hashanah.  The children loved hearing about how the treats represent the hope for a sweet, good year ahead. We wish our families celebrating the new year, Shanah Tovah.

As ever, we're glad to be a school community that reflects so many different faiths and cultures and we look forward to marking other festivals and traditions throughout the year.
