Readathon

Children have been immersed in reading for pleasure this week and Forms 2, 4, 5 and 6 have been sharing books and reading stories with the younger classes. Thank you for encouraging your children to read for pleasure and for making very generous donations to the charity already. Our Readathon continues for another two weeks so Keep Reading.

Form Six Trip

Form Six embarked on a London adventure on Tuesday with a trip to two museums to enhance their understanding of our beautiful city. Their first stop was at the Bank of England Museum, right next to ‘The Old Lady of Threadneedle Street.’ The institution has been in existence since 1694, with gold bars worth many millions located in the basement vaults. Not only did the children handle a gold bar themselves, but they also tried to crack open a safe, and learnt about how coins and notes have changed over hundreds of years.

Shortly afterwards, they scrambled onto the DLR and headed straight to West India Quay in the heart of Docklands. Located in one of the former wharfs is the Museum in Docklands which documents the birth and development of London through the ages. One of the most poignant displays focused on the Blitz, which started on 7 September 1940. The children learnt how Londoners demonstrated resilience in the face of the horrors of the Second World War. There was also the chance to dress up in clothes appropriate to the 1940s and have a well-deserved tea party.

Soon it was time to rush back onto the DLR and Central Line for another close-up look at the heart of our great city.

Doodle Maths Spring Challenge

The Doodle Learning Platform runs challenges from time to time to motivate children to use the various apps on a regular basis.  Recently, a  number of our children took part in the ‘Maths Spring Challenge’  and today received their certificate and Pin Badge which they can wear on their blazer or school jumper.

Congratulations to:

Drop Off and Pick up

With the new traffic arrangements now in place around Connaught Square and Stanhope Place, we have noticed that some cyclists have been riding across the pavement at the corner and some taxis and private cars have been mounting the pavement near school to drop off passengers.   We have been in touch with Westminster Council and they have advised us to report such instances to the Met Police and we would also encourage others to do so in order that we keep all pedestrians but particularly our children safe. In the meantime, we would urge you to remain vigilant when supervising the children at drop off and pick up and do reinforce road safety messages with your child such as the Stop, Look, Listen, Think sequence.

Parent Survey

As we look to develop a wraparound care provision we would like to hear from our parents to help us ensure we are meeting your requirements.  This short survey will take just 3–4 minutes and will directly shape what we offer next academic year 2026/27. https://forms.gle/JWySdWm8yfDQXbHx5 Thank you for your time in completing this survey.

Parent Fundraising Committee

The end of year School Fête will now take place on Wednesday, 8 July, from 2:30-4:30 pm. The Parent's Fundraising Committee will be sending out more information about it soon.

Mr Garvey’s Sponsored Walks

This year, Form Six teacher Mr Garvey will be taking on two challenging walks in aid of the MVA Society. You may not have heard of this charity before, but it was founded by a parent at CHS to support research into a rare genetic condition, one that affects just fifty people worldwide, including one of our own pupils here at CHS.

This half term, Mr Garvey will be walking Hadrian's Wall in the north of England and in August he will be tackling a section of the Camino trail in Italy.

If you would like to find out more about the two challenges, please follow the link below. Any sponsorship would be enormously appreciated and would make a real difference. http://www.justgiving.com/page/stephen-garvey-1772439561035
