There are a number of important events coming up, so please do scroll to the bottom for the full list of dates for your diary. Please note that events are added throughout the term, so we would encourage you to check this section each week for the most up-to-date information.

PSHE Parent Feedback questionnaires - Form One to Six

You will also have received an email to the PSHE parent feedback questionnaire. Over the holidays we would appreciate if you could provide us with some valuable feedback on how you feel the Jigsaw PSHE curriculum lessons at CHS benefits your child and how well CHS provide you as parents with information and guidance on Relationships and Sex education too.

An update on our Readathon+

Our Readathon is well underway and there is an exciting reading buzz about the school. Across forms, children are enjoying shared reading with other classes. Form One had an especially super session reading with Form Four on Tuesday. Bravo to Annalita in Junior One, who joined her local public library and borrowed lots of exciting books to read. Indeed, our Readathon has inspired a range of activities across the forms: Form One has created a magnificent Elmer door. Form Two has been reading stories by Anthony Browne, as well as Alex Latimer picture books and a selection of books by Roald Dahl, Mary Pope, Daisy Meadows, Dav Pilkey, Alex T Smith and Enid Blyton.  They will vote for their overall favourite top three books. Forms Three and Four are reading up a storm and keeping track on their Readathon Totalisers, with Clara (F3) and Ilan and Klara M (F4) leading the challenge! Form Five children have re-created book covers for their favourite books, as well as designing some new ones, while Form Six began their foray into Shakespeare by exploring A Midsummer Night’s Dream. A veritable reading riot!

Well done to all of our pupils who are engaging enthusiastically, reading and reading and getting sponsorship forRead for Good’s hospital programme. Sponsorship money is amassing, with time still left to read and collect. Half Term is a great time to maximise reading and to make the last big push for sponsorship. Remember, all kinds of reading counts. The Readathon ends on May 31st and the final date for submission of sponsorship money is 8th June.

A friendly reminder of how sponsors can submit contributions:

(a)     use the QR Code on the child’s sponsor card

(b)    visitreadforgood.org/sponsor

Thank you parents, for your on-going encouragement and support. To all the children, keep up the great reading over Half Term.

Assembly

This morning the focus was on the importance of Good Sporting Behaviour when taking part in competitions.  We thought about what good ‘sportsmanship’ would look like and learnt about a marathon runner who sacrificed his personal best time in order to help a fellow competitor to finish.  Learning how to be graceful in defeat and magnanimous in victory are such important lessons for our children.

Drama workshop

On Tuesday, we welcomed Amy from Perform for a series of drama workshops across the school.

The Junior classes, from Junior One to Form Two, took part in a Peter Pan workshop, journeying to Neverland and helping Peter to find his shadow. The children enjoyed exploring the story through drama and movement.

The Senior classes, from Form Three to Form Six, participated in a workshop based on Dream, a modern adaptation of A Midsummer Night's Dream. They learnt part of the choreography and were introduced to staging directions and performance techniques. It was an enjoyable and engaging experience for all involved.

Perform runs regular weekly classes in the local area and they are offering a special introductory discount to all parents of Connaught House School if they come along for a free trial session before Wednesday 8th July. To claim your discount, just call Perform on 020 7255 9120 quoting CUGY080726.

Royal dress up day - Form Two

The Form Two came into class on Tuesday as significant Kings and Queens. This was part of their history topic; The British Monarchy, significant Kings and Queens. They learnt a Tudor dance, wrote motivating speeches and celebrated with a wonderful Banquet. The children had a wonderful day and really enjoyed their Royal Day.

Annual General Knowledge Quiz

As a long-standing tradition at CHS, the annual General Knowledge Quiz is open to all pupils in KS1 & KS2, with a quiz tailored for Forms One & Two and a separate quiz for Forms Three to Six. The seen questions are available now on each Form's Google Classroom, giving your children the opportunity to research the answers and commit them to memory over the Half-Term break,  something to really get their teeth into and expand their general knowledge! After Half Term, all pupils will sit the quiz at school, which will also include a number of unseen, age-appropriate general knowledge questions. The pupil with the highest overall score will receive a very impressive trophy, to be presented at Prize Giving on the last day of term. Happy researching one and all!

Parent Survey

As we look to develop a wraparound care provision, we would like to hear from our parents to help us ensure we are meeting your requirements. This short survey will take just 3–4 minutes and will directly shape what we offer next academic year 2026/27. We are recirculating our request as we have had a disappointingly low number of replies, and we truly do value your feedback in helping us understand the demand from our parent community.. https://forms.gle/JWySdWm8yfDQXbHx5 Thank you for your time in completing this survey.

Parent Fundraising Committee

The end of year School Fête will now take place on Wednesday, 8 July, from 2:30-4:30 pm. The Parent's Fundraising Committee will be sending out more information about it soon.
