ℯNEWS June, 23 2026
We begin this week's eNews by extending our warmest thanks (pun intended) to the entire CHS community for pulling together so admirably in response to the exceptional heat. From the kitchen team, who have produced a steady supply of ice lollies and iced drinks, to our wonderfully inventive teachers, who have made creative use of ice, water, and shaded outdoor spaces to keep everyone cool - your efforts have been truly appreciated. Thank you also to our parents, who have rearranged their diaries to collect children earlier and spare both pupils and staff the discomfort of travelling during rush hour. Thankfully, the weather forecast for next week is a very manageable 24 degrees, and therefore, whilst pupils should not be in their school blazers or ties, they should return to normal summer uniform. Please continue to cover your children in sun cream and make sure that they have their sun hats and water bottles.
School Play
As I write this, all of our pupils are enjoying the wonderfully cool surroundings of Carisbrook Hall. Our older children have rehearsed their full production, complete with microphones and stage lighting, whilst our junior choir have had the opportunity for some quiet learning in a separate, airconditioned area, before claiming the stage for their rehearsal.
We are all very much looking forward to the real thing now and have no doubt that both of our Olivias and Elizas will shine and that Fagin, Miss Murdstone and our Annie will each be brilliant. What a treat it will be to see so many beloved literary characters brought together on stage. A pre-emptive well done to all our pupils and to the teachers and parents who have helped them learn their lines so diligently. Thank you, once again, to our alumni and current CHS pupils and parents for the sensational stage props, the stylish hair and the impeccable stage make-up.
Parent Meetings
In light of the red weather warning issued on Wednesday, we took the decision to postpone the scheduled parents' meetings. For the majority of parents, these appointments have now been rescheduled at the same time next Wednesday 1st July. Unfortunately, we have been unable to arrange a like-for-like exchange for Form One and Form Four and parents in both forms whose meetings could not be rescheduled will receive an Eventbrite link on Monday. We apologise sincerely for any inconvenience this may cause. Please do be aware that, in order to accommodate the rearranged meetings, Baking Club and Touch Typing Club will unfortunately be cancelled that afternoon.
Whole School Trip
Next Friday, 3th July, the whole school - pupils and staff alike - will be climbing aboard the coaches and heading to Hertfordshire and Keltic Harmony Camp. Please ensure your child arrives ready for the day: sun cream fully applied, dressed in their PE kit, complete with a named sun hat, an extra water bottle and a sensible packed lunch containing no nuts, sesame, or nut-based products. As we are keen to make the very most of the day, we ask that all pupils arrive by 8.15am. We appreciate that this may mean setting off rather earlier than usual to get ahead of the summer traffic and we thank you in advance for helping us to depart on time.
LAMDA Exam
Our drama club pupils are busy preparing for their upcoming LAMDA exams. This year, we have 27 students taking exams, from Junior One to Form Six. The children will travel to the famous LAMDA drama school in West London over a weekend to perform their poems and acting scenes for an examiner. Candidates will be taking exams from the Introductory Stages through to Grade 3. Students earn UCAS points for LAMDA exams from Grade Six onwards, so our pupils have made a great start on this journey. We are very proud of the hard work and dedication they have shown in their preparations, and we wish them every success - or, as they say in the theatre world, break a leg!

New Cohort - Stay and Play Visits
Throughout next week, we will be welcoming our incoming J1 pupils into school during the school day, giving them the opportunity to meet their teachers, Miss Watson and Miss Pluskoska and begin to familiarise themselves with their new surroundings ahead of September. We have every faith in our current J1 cohort to serve as excellent role models and we look forward to seeing them consolidate everything they have learnt during their Reception year by passing on their knowledge and enthusiasm to the next cohort joining us.
Open Dance
Junior One parents are warmly invited to join us on Wednesday afternoon to watch their children's final dance class of the year. Open Dance is a joyous occasion that gives parents a wonderful bird's-eye view of everything their children have been working on throughout the year.
Parent Fundraising Committee
The CHS Parents' Fundraising Committee is looking forward to welcoming families to the Summer Fête on Wednesday, 8 July, from 2:30pm – 4:30pm at St John's Church. With a magician, traditional games, delicious snacks, a raffle and the return of the much-loved Disco, it promises to be a wonderful afternoon for the whole school community. Parents and carers are invited to join the children from 2:30 pm. More details, including advance token sales, will follow shortly. If you are able to help run a stall or donate a raffle prize, please contact your CHS Class Representative.
