As we are quickly approaching the end of term with various events taking place in the next three weeks, please do take the time to read all the way through for further details on our upcoming events. With a heat wave expected next week, there will be no requirment for pupils to wear their school blazer but suncream and school caps will most definitely be needed.
Form Three Trip - Local Area Study
Form Three enjoyed a brilliant full-day adventure in London this week. We were treated to excellent weather which made our journey along the Thames even more special. Onboard, the children were talking with the crew, asking questions about the boat and the piers. Their curiosity and confidence were wonderful to see. We stopped for a relaxing riverside lunch before taking to the skies in the cable car - the highlight of the day. It was a joyful, enriching day that deepened the children’s understanding of their local area and the city they call home.
Sports Day
Sports Day was a fantastic success, with the children showing tremendous effort, determination and sportsmanship throughout the day. The competition was exceptionally close, with the lead changing hands several times and only a handful of points separating the houses after many of the events.
Sussex House performed brilliantly throughout, but it was Clifton House who secured the Sports Day Cup after a thrilling finish to the final relay race.
The parents' race and the ever-popular Little Visitors race were highlights of the day, bringing plenty of excitement and smiles for both children and spectators.
Congratulations to all the children for their enthusiasm and support of one another, and thank you to the staff, parents and families who helped make the day such a memorable occasion.
Pupil News
Samira in Form Four has donated 11 inches of her beautiful hair and raised £1300 for The Little Princess Trust. Her hair will be turned into a wig for little girls who have cancer and subsequently have lost their hair. She has been very excited to do this and has been growing her hair over the last year.
Rosa in Form Five says she simply walked into school on Tuesday and saw the CHS sign and was inspired to create this in scrabble tiles. Using 200 scrabble tiles with only 10 minutes to assemble. If anyone knocked the table, they would all fall over. Next she wants to create the Sussex and Clifton motifs.
First Maths Challenge - Form Three and Form Four Tackle Maths Challenges
Well done to the entire cohort of Forms Three and Four who bravely tackled the First Maths Challenge last week. These comprised twenty robust questions covering many aspects of the Key Stage Two curriculum, all within a 45 minute window. The contest included geometry, areas, shape recognition and a whole host of fractions and decimals. It is the first event in the series which also includes the Primary, Junior and Senior Maths Challenges as well as the variety of Kangaroo tests. Congratulations to Luca W (F3), who amassed an impressive eighteen correct answers out of 20; to Klara (F4) who scored seventeen and to Konstantin(F4), Clara M(F4), Ilan(F4) and Alberto(F3) who all chalked up sixteen. I hope all of the pupils enjoyed the experience, and that they will continue to be inspired by Maths competitions as well as the regular challenge of Doodle Maths.
Staff News
After more than three years at CHS, our wonderful and much loved Miss Harford will be leaving us at the end of this term. Miss Harford, who joined us from the Sunshine Coast Australia, as a student teacher back in 2022, joined the team officially in 2023 as an Early Careers Teacher and has been an incredible asset ever since. We will all miss her hugely next year but hope that she will remain in contact with her many friends in Central London.
Stepping in as Form One Teacher in September will be Miss Pears who has 17 years experience in education, a MA in Photography, from the university of Canterbury New Zealand, and is also a qualified jazz Dance teacher. She will no doubt bring wonderful creativity to our Key Stage One cohort. We look forward to welcoming Miss Pears on Thursday 25th June, to spend the day shadowing Miss Harford and getting to know our upcoming Form One Cohort.

School photos will be taken on Tuesday 23 June, please ensure that children are dressed smartly in their summer uniform including short sleeve white shirts, ties and grey ankle socks with shorts or for those in summer dresses, please make sure that they are in white ankle socks and neat hair on the day.
Key Stage Two Play - Olivia! - Friday 26 June 2026
The play will take place at The Carisbrooke Hall, Victory Services Club, next door to the school. It will start at 2pm, with doors opening at 1.50pm for parents to take their seats. We anticipate the whole performance will conclude by 3.30pm.
Costume ideas are available in the assembly Classroom and we would appreciate that costumes are brought into school on Monday 22 June 2026 clearly named. Please encourage your child to learn their lines and to practice the songs. If your child has forgotten their script, these are also available on the assembly Classroom.
Parent Fundraising Committee
The CHS Parents' Fundraising Committee is looking forward to welcoming families to the Summer Fête on Wednesday, 8 July, from 2:30pm – 4:30pm at St John's Church. With a magician, traditional games, delicious snacks, a raffle and the return of the much-loved Disco, it promises to be a wonderful afternoon for the whole school community. Parents and carers are invited to join the children from 2:30 pm. More details, including advance token sales, will follow shortly. If you are able to help run a stall or donate a raffle prize, please contact your CHS Class Representative.
