We were delighted that, despite the rain, we opened our doors on Wednesday morning to bright and eager children, ready for the start of the Autumn Term. It was wonderful to hear about their exciting summer holidays, and we discovered that our pupils quite literally travelled the globe! From Singapore to Scotland and from Nigeria to Norway, our children are certainly very well-travelled.

A huge well done, and thank you, to all our parents for ensuring the children arrived in full and correct uniform. With most pupils now in their new games kit, Forms Two to Five all looked extremely smart as they set off this afternoon for their first games and swimming session at Kensington Leisure Centre.

Behaviour Code & Attendance goal

In assembly this morning, we reminded all pupils of our core school Behaviour Code:

Be Kind, Be Well-mannered, Be Hard-working, Be Resilient, Be Co-operative, Be Community-minded.

We reflected together on what each of these “Be’s” means in practice. In addition, we spoke about the importance and value of regular, sustained attendance. Our aim is +95% attendance this autumn term – a high bar, but one we hope to reach by encouraging healthy routines, good sleep and balanced diets to keep seasonal colds and coughs at bay.

Building renovations

Over the summer holiday, we carried out extensive building renovations, including new flooring in four classrooms and complete redecoration of both Junior One and Form Five in preparation for the new school year.

Uniform

On Monday, children should come to school wearing their smart uniform, including their blazers. The blazer is a compulsory part of the uniform and should be worn every day, including days they wear their sports kit. We understand that it does take some time for new items to be delivered. Please communicate with the school office if you have any missing items. We do have spare uniforms that can be borrowed or purchased on a donation basis. All donations go towards the CHS Bursary and Hardship Fund.

New Staff

Form Four have warmly welcomed their new form teacher, Miss Weedy, who also takes on the roles of SENCO and Mental Health Lead. We are equally delighted that Miss Harford, who was a floating teacher last year, has stepped into the role of Form One teacher.

While some of our clubs are already fully subscribed, unfortunately we have had very little interest in Lego Robotics. As a result, the club leaders are unable to run it this term. Should they receive additional sign-ups over the weekend this may change, but at present the Lego Robotics Club will not go ahead for the autumn term. Parents who had been relying on this for childcare are welcome to register their children for Art Club instead.
