ℯNEWS JuLY, 4 2025
In this, our penultimate week of the school year, we’ve packed the days full of school trips, special events and national competitions, keeping the energy high right through to the crescendo of the week: Friday’s fantastic Summer Fair and school disco.
Whole School Outing
On Monday, the whole school gathered bright and early, full of excitement for their reflective trips. J1 and F1 departed promptly at 8.30 am, eager to board the coach to Godstone Farm. There, they enjoyed handling animals, pond dipping and , and had a truly wonderful time together, strengthening friendships and learning about life on the farm.
Meanwhile, F2 to F6 set off at 9.00 am to the Wetland Centre, where they took part in a variety of engaging activities and workshops. Despite the warm weather, the children stayed well hydrated and enthusiastic throughout, making the most of a memorable day of learning beyond the classroom.
Form Six Adventure Day – Blackland Farm Outdoor Centre
Form Six gathered bright and early at 7:20 a.m. at Victoria Station for a surprise trip. Their destination: East Grinstead and the Blackland Farm Outdoor Centre, where a day full of adventure awaited them. The morning began with a thrilling session of abseiling and bushcraft, followed by den building and fire lighting using flint and steel, all before lunch!
After enjoying their packed lunches in the shade, the group took on a challenging crate stacking activity, which tested their teamwork and balance. Some children reached an impressive height of 14 crates before being gently lowered back down using harnesses.
The day concluded with a well-earned ice cream treat from Mr Garvey, before everyone boarded the Southern train back to Victoria. Parents were delighted to hear all about the day's exciting adventures, especially the stories of their fearless, abseiling children!
Last Friday’s Assembly of the Year
Our final Friday assembly of the year was all about transition, looking ahead to new classes in September and for our oldest children in Form Six, the exciting step of moving on to senior school.
The children shared their thoughts and feelings in a lively discussion. They spoke honestly about what made them a little nervous, like missing friends, and what they were most looking forward to over the summer. Top of the list? Sleeping in and staying up late!
We then turned our attention to new beginnings: new classrooms, new teachers, new friendships and, for some, entirely new schools. We reminded ourselves of what it means to be the best we can be, guided by our school values of kindness, resilience, responsibility, and cooperation.
We also looked ahead to the final few days of term, including the school fair later in the afternoon and next week’s prize-giving. We reflected on how prizes are not simply gifts, but well-earned recognition for hard work and commitment.
Mrs Hampton was truly impressed by the children’s thoughtful contributions and the mature, supportive attitudes they brought to our last Friday assembly of the year.
Quiz Club General Knowledge National Competition Final at Oxford University
We were absolutely delighted that our general knowledge team - including pupils from Forms Three, Four, Five and Six, qualified for the Quiz Club General Knowledge National Competition Final at Oxford University today, where the top 34 schools, out of a potential 200, competed.
Representing the school were:
Form Three Ari
Form Four Alexander
Form Five Atia
and our Team Leader from Form Six Mimi
The team achieved a fantastic 21st place out of 200 schools! Well done, team – we are incredibly proud of your hard work and dedication.
Separately, the Quiz Club Maths Finals were also held at the same prestigious venue. Our Form Six team—consisting of Charlie, Mimi, Maxi, and Izzy—progressed to an impressive 6th place out of 33 finalists. This means they were ranked 6th nationally out of the 200 primary schools that entered – a sensational result and a very well-earned BRAVO to them all!
CHS Summer Fete Summer Fair and School Disco – A Triumphant Afternoon!
This afternoon’s Summer Fair was a resounding success! Masterfully organised and led by our dedicated Parents’ Fundraising Committee, the event was a joyful celebration of community spirit and fun. The committee worked tirelessly behind the scenes to create yet another fantastic experience for everyone involved.
We offer our sincere thanks to the many generous companies who sponsored the event, donating not only their time but also an array of incredible raffle prizes. It was especially fitting that Mr and Mrs Larke won the fabulous weekend holiday in Scotland. Mrs Larke, who quietly manages so much behind the scenes at school, was a truly deserving recipient.
From face painting to ice creams and the ever-popular candyfloss and popcorn stands, the fair was filled with smiling faces and happy memories. As if by magic, the afternoon flowed straight into the much-anticipated school disco, a special request from the pupils themselves via their school council.
With a soundtrack ranging from Olivia Rodrigo hits to ABBA classics, both children and parents danced and sang their way into the weekend.
We’re thrilled to announce that the event raised an impressive £1,646 in donations on the door, with a further £750 received, so far, in optional contributions through the school fees system, bringing the grand total to £2,396 for very worthy causes.
A heartfelt thank you to our wonderful CHS community for your generosity and support and an especially big thank you to our fantastic Parents’ Fundraising Committee for making it all happen.
