School Photos

On Tuesday, the whole school went across to Connaught Square for photographs. The children had individual, sibling, class and whole school photos taken. Photo card tickets have been sent home so parents can place their orders. We will be in touch as soon as the photos are ready to view.

Celebrating Achievement and Community Spirit

This morning’s assembly, led by Mrs Hampton, was a wonderfully celebratory occasion that captured the positivity and sense of community at the heart of our school. It was a chance to reflect on the many achievements of our pupils and the thoughtful ways they have contributed to school life this year. From academic successes to pupil-led initiatives rooted in kindness and service, the morning was a testament to how deeply our school values are lived out day by day.

We began by congratulating those who took part in the recent Primary Mathematics Challenge. Certificates were awarded to all participants for their excellent effort and problem-solving.

The positivity continued with a special presentation about our Pupil Voice, celebrating a full year of pupil-led action and leadership. Highlights included last summer’s well-supported Readathon, the Easter egg donation to St John’s Hospice, and a variety of other fundraising and awareness events that demonstrated real compassion and creativity. Class councillors and their substitutes were warmly thanked for their contributions and had the opportunity to share how ideas are developed—from initial thoughts to planning and, finally, to successful events. Their reflections were a powerful reminder of how pupil voice links so closely with the school’s ethos of community responsibility and social awareness.

The assembly concluded with a whole-school vote to choose which local charity to support through our final event of the year—the School Fete, taking place next Friday. Pupils presented passionate arguments in support of several worthy causes, including The Children’s Book Project, the Wildlife Trust, Mayhew Cats and Dogs and Hello Yellow. After much consideration, the winning vote went to St Mary’s Children’s Trust, a charity that continues to resonate with our pupils and one we are proud to support once again this year.

Looking Ahead: A New Pupil Voice Initiative for September

As the assembly drew to a close, Mrs Hampton shared an exciting new initiative launching in the autumn term: Tea with the Principal

Each week, one pupil from each form, who demonstrates our core school values of: Being Kind, Resilient, Well-mannered, Self-motivated, Respectful, Co-operative and having a sense of community. As well as having excellent attendance and pride in their presentation, they will be invited to attend a special tea at the end of the week.

The invitation will be extended at the start of each week, offering pupils something to aim for and a meaningful way to recognise their contribution to our school community. It promises to be a lovely way to round off the week and to highlight the many quiet acts of integrity, hard work and kindness that take place every day. We are all looking forward to seeing this new initiative take shape—Mrs Hampton especially!

Whole School Outing

Junior One and Form One are in for a treat as they head off to Godstone Farm on Monday, 30th June, bright and early! The children will need to arrive at school by 8.15am for a prompt 8.30am departure. They will have the chance to meet friendly farm animals, explore the adventure playground and enjoy the fresh countryside air. It promises to be a wonderful day of hands-on experiences and exciting outdoor fun.

Meanwhile, Form Two to Form Six will be visiting the Wetlands Centre on the same day. With beautiful nature trails, fascinating wildlife and the chance to spot rare birds, it’s set to be an unforgettable trip. The pupils will learn about the importance of protecting wetland habitats while enjoying a brilliant day out in nature.

Form Six Secret Trip

On Tuesday, the Form Six pupils will be heading off on their much-anticipated secret trip with Mr Garvey and Mrs Hampton. This special tradition is a highlight of the year, as Form Six are treated to a surprise outing to mark the end of their time at CHS. The children will meet Mr Garvey and Mrs Hampton bright and early—this year at 7.25am—before setting off on an adventure by train. True to tradition, they will not find out their destination until the train has departed! We hope the children are feeling excited and curious about where they might be headed. We look forward to sharing all the details with you in next week’s newsletter—watch this space!
