Assembly

This morning the children were learning about Gertrude Ederle who was the first woman to swim the English Channel.  They found out about how she first tried to swim the channel in 1925 but was unable to complete the challenge but she persevered.  She thought about what she needed to do to be successful and was able to achieve her goal the following year.  We recognised this linked to our school behaviour code which asks children to ‘Be resilient.’

Next week the children will be learning about how to Speak Out. Stay Safe.  An assembly delivered by the NSPCC.  You will be receiving more information about this in a separate letter.

Online Safety Webinars for Parents

Hopefully, you all received the information we emailed last week about online safety.  In the next week or so your children will be coming home with their AUP which is a behaviour code that guides their online learning.  Please keep it and use it as a reference when discussing their ‘online lives’

We would also like to inform you of some webinars for parents hosted in partnership between Natterhub (the online safety teaching & learning platform that we use in school) and Twinkl (a community of educators producing material for teachers).  They are free.

There is one for young children 0  to 5 years which would suit our Junior 1 parents.  The theme is ‘Safe from the Start.  It will be on Tuesday 23rd September at midday.  It is being Live streamed on YouTube, no login required.

There is another one for parents and carers of Primary pupils (Forms 1 to 6) The theme is Banned or Balanced? Raising Safe Digital Kids.  It will be on Thursday 25th of September at 1 pm  It is being Live streamed on YouTube.  Please find the link below.

Banned or balanced

There is also a session designed for parents of children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities.  You will need to register for this session. You can sign up at

Webinar Online Safety: Reducing the Online Vulnerability of Children with SEND

We hope they are useful for you.

Virtual Coffee morning with Mrs Hampton “11+”

Mrs Hampton was happy to have a full quota of Form Six parents to join her for her first virtual coffee morning of the new academic year. They looked at the importance of soft skills and maintaining hobbies and interests even through the busy months leading up to the 11+ exams. As this is important for the children’s mental health and wellbeing.

Tea with the Principal

Mrs Hampton started a new initiative, to allow her to hear the thoughts, views and opinions of every one of our Connaught House pupils, she would invite one child from each class from Form Two to Six to tea on Friday afternoons. First to receive their invitations and join Mrs Hampton this afternoon were: Lara F6, Alexander F5, Riley F4, Matvey F3 and Raphi in F2. Topics that came up for discussion included but were not limited to, lunch, sustainability with ideas including litter picking day, and energy saving solutions, alongside discussions relating to PE kit and an acronym for KIND agreed as a key element of the school ethos.

Upcoming Community Partnership with the Marble Arch Bid

Last year, our pupils were proud to take part in the unveiling of the Paddington Bear Bench in Connaught Village. Since then, the bench has mysteriously disappeared, and its new location remains a secret. Six pupils have now been invited to help discover where it has gone. This exciting project not only gives our children a chance to play detective, but also helps us to continue working closely with the local community and the Marble Arch BID.

Request from CHS Team

We have noticed that some of the children are bringing in gifts to share with classmates. Whilst we celebrate our children’s generous nature, we are trying to teach them that they do not need to reward friendship in this manner. We encourage the children to reflect and embody our kindness behaviour code listed below;

Be friendly

Be welcoming

Be caring

Be gentle

Be patient

Be forgiving

Be inclusive

Artwork of the week

Rosa in Form Five, for a fantastic seasonal card design.

It might seem early,  but we’ll need to send our artwork off to the printers soon! A brilliant illustration with great use of colour and lots of interesting details, well done Rosa!
