Form Three Assembly

Well done to Form Three for their fantastic assembly, linked to their Geography Curriculum, all about earthquakes! The children confidently explained what causes earthquakes and where they occur around the world. They also taught us about the importance of staying safe during an earthquake by remembering to ‘Drop, cover and hold on.’ The children spoke clearly, remembered their lines brilliantly and delivered their information with great enthusiasm and confidence. They should be incredibly proud of their hard work and achievements. The assembly finished with a lively sing-along that had everyone smiling and joining in!

Junior One Autumnal Exploration

Junior One enjoyed a wonderful week of autumnal exploration, beginning with the seasonal rhyming book Pick a Pumpkin and Story Orchestra: Four Seasons in One Day, which uses Vivaldi’s music and beautiful illustrations to tell a story through the changing seasons.

Throughout the week, the children enjoyed autumn-themed sound-guessing games and messy pumpkin play, using adjectives modelled from our texts to describe different sensations. They also used pumpkin seeds to practise grouping and subitising in maths through a game of ‘Roll and Ring’, before finishing the week by scrubbing the pumpkins with sponges and soap! Alongside this, we listened to Vivaldi’s Autumn and created pattern-sequence dances inspired by the season, with movements such as curling up like a conker and twirling like leaves in the wind. The children repeated their chosen movements in simple patterns, linking creative movement with their maths learning. Well done, Junior One, for a fantastic week of exploration and discovery!

Art History Visit

On Thursday, Ms Lobanova, Eva’s mum, visited Form Two to share her knowledge of how paint was traditionally made using natural materials. She explained how colour compounds, known as pigments and dyes, were extracted from plants and insects and mixed with a liquid binder to create paint.

The children explored a fascinating collection of materials and treasures, from gold leaf and pigment powders to tiny insects. They also had the opportunity to make their own paint and look through books of ancient artworks to discover how these materials were used throughout history. In addition, the children enjoyed viewing some beautiful artwork created by Ms Lobanova herself. Mrs Hampton also popped in and was very impressed by how engaged the children were throughout the session. What a wonderful opportunity to bring art history to life!

Parent Teacher Meetings

Parents will have the opportunity to meet with teachers on Monday 19th or Tuesday 20th to discuss how their children have settled into the new school year. Each meeting will last 15 minutes and provide an opportunity to speak with your child’s class teacher.

Please note that after-school clubs will not run on either day. However, for parents who are unable to arrange alternative childcare, we have arranged for a teaching assistant to supervise children in the dining room for the duration of their meeting.

Wet Weather Spares

As the weather becomes colder and wetter, we would like to remind parents to ensure that their child has a complete set of spare uniform kept at school in their green drawstring bag. A spare pair of socks is particularly important during the wetter months, should children need to change after getting caught in the rain.

Please ensure that all items, including socks, are clearly labelled with your child’s name so that belongings can be easily identified and returned if misplaced. Thank you for your help in keeping the children comfortable and prepared for all weathers.

Artwork of the Week

Rosa in Form Six, for a fantastic drawing of a Sihek, a critically endangered species of kingfisher, for the Art as Activism project. Careful application of the grid method and excellent use of tone to create texture and form. Well done Rosa!
