ℯNEWS March, 28 2025
What a wonderful way to wrap up the term! The children had great fun taking part in our Easter egg hunt in the Square, searching high and low for hidden treats.
On the same day, a team of our pupils showcased their abilities in the National General Knowledge Quiz – find out more about their achievements below!
PSHE Questionnaire
We are always looking for ways to enhance our PSHE curriculum to meet the needs of our pupils. Your feedback will help us gain a better understanding of how your child is at home and outside of school.
To assist us, we kindly ask you to complete the relevant questionnaire. There are two versions available: one for parents of children in Forms One to Three and another for those in Forms Four to Six. Form One - Form Three Form Four - Form Six
Staffing Update - Peripatetic Teachers
As we begin the Summer Term, we are delighted to welcome two new members of staff to our music department.
Ms Yavuz joins us as our new Violin Teacher and will be taking over Mr Hutchinson’s pupils. She will be in touch with the families of existing pupils to introduce herself. We also extend a warm welcome to Ms Hannent, who joins us as maternity cover while Ms Monoghan prepares for the exciting arrival of her second child.
Please join us in welcoming both Ms Hannent and Ms Yavuz to our school community. We look forward to sharing happy news regarding baby Monoghan next term.
If you are interested in signing up for Peripatetic music lessons, please email the school office.
Chocolate Easter Egg Collection for St John’s Hospice
A sincere thank you to our school community for the generous donations of chocolate Easter eggs to St John’s Hospice. Our School Council members, accompanied by Mrs Wells and Miss Pluskowska, had the opportunity to deliver these to the residents, who were very appreciative of the kind gesture.
The hospice staff also expressed their gratitude, noting how much these thoughtful gifts mean to the people in their care. Acts of generosity like this reflect the strong sense of community within our school, and we are grateful to everyone who contributed. Thank you for your support in making a difference this Easter.
Form Six Trip
On Tuesday, the Form Six class headed east for two spectacular outings in one day. Their first port of call was Whitechapel to visit the Centre of the Cell research laboratories at Queen Mary, University of London. The class was given a ninety-minute immersive experience looking at cellular biology. They learnt how human cells develop and played a host of interactive games to further their understanding of everything to do with cells. They learnt that the average human has 37 trillion cells, and we lose thousands of them each day.
After this experience, the class headed to East India Docks to visit the outstanding Museum in Docklands. This charts the rise of the capital city and its influence around the world. The class immersed itself into discovering the effect of the German bombing of London in 1940. They were told a story of how tonnes of burnt sugar was sold by children in London after a serious blaze at the docklands’ warehouses. The class then headed back to school on the driverless DLR after a momentous day.
Form Two Open Dance
Thank you to all the parents who joined us at The Sylvia Young Theatre School for Form Two’s Open Dance session this week. We hope you were impressed with the children’s performances and enjoyed seeing all they have learned with Miss Ellie.
Quiz Club Semi Final
There was a huge amount of tension around the Seniors’ classrooms on Thursday morning as the semi-finals of the Quiz Club General Knowledge competition got underway. The team of Ari, Alexander, Atia and the captain, Mimi, pitted their wits against forty-six other teams in the online competition. There were thirty questions ranging in difficulty. They had to work out how long it takes Neptune to orbit the sun; the name of the last Tsar of Russia; what is the unit of measurement for frequency and where your jugular vein is located. When the points were added up, the side finished a superb tenth with 1685 points.
Success! The CHS Team has been invited to Oxford once again to take part in the National Finals in competition!
General Knowledge Quiz - Form Three - Six
Pupils in Forms Three to Six have taken home copies of the Seen section of this year’s General Knowledge Quiz. Over the holidays, they are encouraged to research the questions and prepare their answers for the Summer Term.
At some point during the Summer Term, these classes will take part in the quiz, which consists of two sections: the Seen questions they have researched and an Unseen section to test their broader knowledge.
The overall winner will be awarded the prestigious General Knowledge Cup at the end of the school year. Good luck to all participants!
