Welcome back! We hope you all had a restful and enjoyable spring break. It has been lovely to see the children return refreshed and ready for the busy and exciting term ahead. This week has already seen a wonderful start, with plenty of enthusiasm in the classroom and a number of activities to look forward to as the term unfolds.

Jigsaw Assembly

Today's assembly, led by Ms. Galligan, introduced the new PSHE Jigsaw puzzle unit on Relationships.

During the assembly, the children listened to a thought provoking story that illustrated the different types of relationships. The children participated by sharing their perspectives on what constitutes healthy relationships among friends and siblings. To facilitate discussion, each child was encouraged to express their thoughts on post-it notes, which were then shared throughout the assembly. This interactive approach allowed the children to recognise that their experiences and understanding of family and friendships may vary, thus promoting an appreciation of diversity in our community.

We shared our feelings on how we are all part of the school, emphasising the significance of belonging to the CHS community, where we agreed that every child feels that they feel happy,  safe and cared for.

Staff Changes

Please join us in welcoming Ms Fernandes, part-time teaching assistant, who joins us for the Summer term having recently completed her Early Childhood Studies degree with First Class Honours from the University of Roehampton. We are very pleased to have Ms Fernandes on the team for the Summer months.

Uniform

From Tuesday 6th May, all children should arrive at school in their Summer uniform.

Compulsory: Summer dress, white ankle socks (or green tights if cold), school blazer and optional cardigan.

Or Compulsory: short-sleeved white shirt, school tie, grey Bermuda shorts, grey ankle socks, school jumper and blazer.

Please take note of the days when pupils will need their Games kit:

Junior One and Form One will continue their dance lessons with Miss Ellie on Wednesdays, so they will need their Games kit on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. Form Two will require their Games kit on Thursday and Friday.

The Senior classes will also need their kits on Thursday and Friday for their Games lessons. Forms Two and Three will be in the gym with Mr Murray-White at Kensington Leisure Centre and will therefore need their plimsolls for their basketball lesson. Forms Four, Five and Six will continue with Swimming lessons until half term in addition to their Games sessions.

School Play

The children were informed on Thursday that the school play for Forms 3 - 6 this year is a version of ‘The Wizard of Oz’.  We will be holding auditions next week and children can access part of the script on the Assembly Classroom if they would like to start thinking about the character and how they would perform the lines.  Once we have cast the parts, we will be sending home further information about costumes.

Some pupils in Forms 3 - 6  may be involved in learning a dance for the Summer Play and may need plimsolls or soft soled shoes on Wednesdays. If your child already has these, please bring them in to be kept in a games bag on their peg.

Attendance

We would like to take this opportunity to remind you of the importance of regular school attendance. As I am sure you are aware, the government has made this a priority for all children in all schools, In the Borough of Westminster, any attendance falling below 95% is considered a cause for concern. All schools are required to consider reporting children to the local authority if they have missed 5 school days within a rolling 10 week period.  Persistent absence, which is defined as attendance below 90% of the time, can have a significant impact not only on your child’s academic progress, but also on their emotional and social development. While it may be tempting to keep your child at home when they are feeling slightly under the weather, or when childcare arrangements create difficulties around drop-off or collection, we must stress that such absences are not acceptable and can be detrimental to your child’s overall educational experience. We appreciate your support in ensuring that your child attends school punctually and consistently. Let’s aim for 100% attendance for the summer term, please!

Upcoming

Form Three Trip - Tuesday 29th April

To conclude their Local Area Study topic, the children in Form Three will be going on a tour of London. They will begin their journey in Putney, travelling by Thames Clipper to North Greenwich, where—weather permitting—they will have the opportunity to ride the cable cars. They will then return to school via the DLR and Underground.

The tour will form an important part of their learning as they use maps to record features of the local area, describe its distinctive characteristics, and suggest possible improvements. They will also explore how architecture across the city has changed over time.

Form Two, Four and Five Trip - Wednesday 30th April

As part of the National Gallery’s Take One Picture art project, inspired by Canaletto’s painting of A Regatta on the Grand Canal, three of the classes have been selected to head out on a boat trip next week. They will be setting off from Paddington Basin where they will get to explore the sights up to Little Venice on the canal.
