ℯNEWS June, 13 2025

It has been a very busy week at CHS, with each class working very hard in preparation for an event-filled week next week. Monday will see the children head off to The Marylebone Theatre for the Senior classes' (F3 - F6) adaptation of The Wizard of Oz. The Junior classes (J1 to F2) have also been busy preparing their songs for their part in this performance. It is one not to be missed!

With that being said, if you have not done so already, please follow this link https://forms.gle/rJVT53RwNoR9bP9T9 to let us know who to expect in the audience. The children will be dismissed to parents at the end of the production; therefore, we do ask that at least one family member is in attendance to support the children.

Monday 16th June, Forms Three - Six, Marylebone Theatre

On Monday 16th June, Forms Three to Six will spend the whole day at the theatre and, weather permitting, have a picnic in Regents’ Park.  They will wear their uniform to school and will change into their costumes at the theatre. Please supply your child with a packed lunch and water bottle in a small bag - preferably disposable, as there is limited storage space at the theatre.

*Please note that ALL Children (Junior One to Form Six) should NOT bring their school bags in with them on Monday.

With a heatwave expected next week, children will not be required to wear their blazers to school. Please ensure that your child has long-lasting, high-factor sunscreen applied before school and comes with a sun hat (preferably one of the school versions – the green cap or the older white cricket hat) in addition to their water bottle. For anyone who suffers from hay fever, please bare-in-mind that the warmer weather usually brings a high pollen count.

Cicero Cup Debating Competition

Five pupils trekked to the Maritime Museum for a day of debating. We will discover how they did and update you on the results next week. Thanks to Mrs Thyselius for accompanying them with Mr Garvey.

Open Swim

Forms Four to Six had their final swimming lesson this Friday and it was lovely to welcome some of our parents from the Senior Classes to attend Open Swim.

It was delightful to see the progress the children have made in the water; all four strokes were practised and impressive stamina was shown when swimming the lengths. A perfectly apt way to end the week, with a little aquatic playtime to finish the lesson – flippers and water polo balls at the ready.

Well done to our swimmers!

 Attendance Assembly

Mrs Hampton spoke with the children today about the importance of good attendance. The expectation is that all pupils aim for 95% attendance across the school year, which allows for about 5 days off a year for illness or emergencies.

The children worked out something very interesting — if a child only achieves 90% attendance every year throughout their primary school career, they would miss the equivalent of a whole term of school by the time they leave Form Six!

They also talked about how being late can add up. If a child arrives 15 minutes late every day, it would amount to a whole two weeks of lost learning time!

Mrs Hampton was very pleased with the children’s strategy planning around avoiding poor attendance, which was discussed across all age groups. Suggestions included getting a good night's sleep to make mornings easier, preparing uniform and school bags the night before, and recognising the importance of eating a healthy breakfast to support a positive school day.

Particularly impressive was a contribution from a pupil in Form Two, who highlighted the role children can play in making sure their parents know what time they need to be at school. It’s wonderful to see some of our Key Stage One pupils developing such independence skills! A gold star was also awarded to Clara in Form Three, who is currently at 100% attendance – bravo!

School Fete - Parents’ Fundraising Committee

Form parent representatives will be in touch shortly regarding donations for the upcoming Summer Fete, taking place on Friday, 4th July.

Parent-Teacher meetings

Parent-teacher meetings are just around the corner on Tuesday, 24 & Thursday, 26 June. Please expect a link to come out next week to choose. As always, siblings will have priority to book to ensure same-day meetings, so please bear with us, the links will be with you in due course.

Sports Day - Friday 20th June

On Friday, 20th June, we will have our sports day in our usual space - please refer to the picture attached, at the Paddington Recreation Ground. We ask that parents bring the children directly to the Recreation Centre at 9.15am for final preparations, not to school. Sports Day will commence at 9.30am and the children will be dismissed to you at the end of the event.
