CHS News July 2016

Charity Day on Monday:  Please help our Form Six girls raise money for this year’s voted charity, Children With Cancer UK, at our used books Bring & Buy Sale. We will welcome your donations of any good quality used children’s books (for ages 4-12 years) that can be purchased by the children in the dining room during the afternoon between 2pm-3.30pm.  Each child may bring up to £5 for the sale.

Prize Giving on Wednesday:  We are looking forward to seeing you all on Wednesday morning at the Carisbrooke Hall for the CHS Annual Prize Giving.  This is a family event, starting at 11am, and the ceremony should last approximately one hour.  The children will leave with their parents from the Hall and this marks the end of term.

As the end of the year is upon us, many of our classes have been enjoying a very busy final full week at School with trips, visits and the occasional super hero flying around Junior One!

Form One thoroughly enjoyed their second visit from the children’s author Angela Fish who came in to talk about her newest title, ‘Ben and the Spider Prince’.  Forms Five & Six disappeared off to the British Library on Thursday where they toured the building and attended a pair of wonderful workshops on the history of maps and a drama based Shakespeare review.  They visited the ‘Treasure’ room, an exhibit filled with rare and beautiful books on many varied subjects, and they were also able to see the second biggest book in the world.  We hope Form Four are enjoying their trip today to London Zoo and fingers crossed the rain holds off for them.

Staff News: Miss Steel and Form One will be sad to say goodbye to Miss Bowrey this July as she leaves CHS to take up a PGCE place at St Mary’s University College to fulfill her goal of becoming a qualified teacher. As well as providing stalwart support in Form One, Miss Bowrey has been involved in several popular club activities, the Sign Language Club being a particular favourite with the children.  We wish her every success for the future and look forward to welcoming her back as a fully qualified teacher one day!

Joining the School in September to assist Miss Steel will be Lisa Weston, BA, CELTA, who has a double 2:1 Bachelor of Arts in French and in Near Eastern Studies with a minor in Arabic Language from the University of Arizona. She is an experienced Teaching Assistant, usefully familiar with the Read Write Inc programme, and has previously taught in Vietnam, Italy, the Czech Republic and, most recently, in the UK. Miss Weston has also had experience working with and supporting children with specific educational needs. She is fluent in French, having grown up internationally, and her long-term professional goal is to become a qualified primary school teacher. We look forward to welcoming Miss Weston to CHS.

We hope you all have a very happy summer break and thank you for your continuous support throughout the year.  We look forward to welcoming our CHS pupils back on 8 September for the Autumn Term.

Best wishes.

The CHS Team
